Lavender
has many traditional therapeutic uses. It can be helpful for
colds and bronchitis, for rheumatic pain, muscle spasms, balancing
blood pressure, and not least, as a sedative to the central
nervous system, for headaches, relieving tension and anxiety,
mild depression and insomnia. It's a lovely oil for baths,
for fresheners, or simply for putting on a tissue and breathing
in its lovely aroma. A major plus for this oil is that it
can be used "neat," or undiluted directly on skin.
It is one of the few oils that can be used in this manner.

Experiencing with all
14 Lavenders is a must. You
will find it hard to believe you thought there was just one
Lavender
Two main groups of Lavenders
are correctly referred to as true Lavenders and Lavandins.
A little chemistry: Lavenders are high in esters, which are
aromatic compounds that produce a relaxing, soothing, and
balancing effect
True Lavenders (Lavandula
vera) produce the most prized and precious essential oil.
Because they are more difficult to grow and have a smaller
yield of oil, they are more valuable. When choosing a lavender,
true lavender is the best choice. Ever popular, it is recognized
for its balancing, pain-relieving, and relaxing properties,
as well as its versatility and effectiveness in a variety
of applications including muscle strain, respiratory conditions,
stress, and skin care. True lavenders are grown wild or by
cultivation. They are often adulterated or extended with lavandins
to reduce the cost.
Lavandins (Lavandula
Iiybrida) are a hybrid cross of true lavender and
spike lavender. Cultivated by cuttings, much more lavandin
is in production than true lavender because it is easier to
grow and produces a higher yield of essential oil. Lavandin
and true lavender have similar therapeutic properties but
lavandins are better suited for respiratory, muscle, and circulation
conditions. Their fragrance is less floral and more herbaceous
than true lavender. When choosing amongst lavandins, let your
personal preference of fragrance be your guide because therapeutically,
they will achieve a similar, desired effect.
